Rodney Dangerfield - An icon of classic TV Late Night Stand-up

He was recognized by his trademark phrase - I have no respect.


Born November 22, 1921 in Babylon, New York, Rodney Dangerfield began writing jokes at 15 years and the realization of his comedy for a teenager. For ten years he struggled as a comedian and worked as a singing waiter to make ends meet. When his career as a comedian not to really take off, Dangerfield, who had been working in entertainment as Jack Roy, the entertainment was a regular job. He spent the 1950 sale of aluminum siding in New Jersey, while supporting his first wife and their two children.

It took another chance in show business after her divorce in 1961 and became known by the rest of his life as Rodney Dangerfield. At that time, he was approaching his fortieth birthday. His big break came when he appeared as a guest on The Ed Sullivan Show. He did what few people were able to do - they laughed at Ed Sullivan. During the 1960s, toured many of the most popular variety shows. He did his standup in The Joey Bishop Show, The Merv Griffin Show and The Jackie Gleason Show. In 1969 he made his first appearances in the 35 The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. In addition to his performances on television, I spent time doing the rounds at comedy clubs across the country.

In 1969, he opened his own comedy club stand-up comedy, Dangerfield in New York. Since its inception, has been one of the most popular comedy clubs in America, receiving rave reviews by major newspapers and entertainment guides. From Dangerfield opened nearly 40 years has seen the likes of Jay Leno, Jim Carey, Chris Rock, Andrew Dice Clay, Tim Allen and Jerry Seinfeld grace its stage. Many of the biggest comedy club is based are as guests on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night With David Letterman.

Having cemented his place in the history of stand-up comedy, Dangerfield turned his attention to acting. She had her first film role in the 1971 film the projectionist, and had a role in the television series Benny and Barney Las Vegas Undercover later in the decade. The acting roles were gradually, but in 1980 landed a role that made him a household name. He played the infamous real estate developer in the hit comedy Al Czervik Caddy Shack. Suddenly, people did not know much about the comic knew all about Rodney Dangerfield.

Caddy Shack followed with two more comedies, 1980, easy money and return to school. In 1991, he made the animated film Rover Dangerfield, the story of a dog that gets no respect. Throughout his career, his line to get the respect it was not his trademark.

Dangerfield branched out into a serious role to come. He played the abusive father of Juliette Lewis character in the controversial movie Natural Born Killers. It is reported that Dangerfield was allowed to write their own lines for the role. This was to be his only serious film role. He followed it with more comedies like Meet Wally Sparks and godson. In 2000, comedian almost 80 years old, he starred opposite Adam Sandler in Little Nicky.

Their role seems quite past was that of God in 2005 with the Los Angeles Angels. It was released posthumously. Dangerfield died on October 5, 2004. He had fallen into a coma after heart surgery and never regained consciousness. His tombstone shows his comedy. It reads Rodney Dangerfield - There Goes The Neighborhood.

His comedy career spanned 60 years. In addition to all stages and achievements of the screen during those years, also won two awards for their achievements. In 1981 he won a Grammy for his recording of the comedy called No Respect. In 1995, the American Comedy Awards was awarded the Creative Achievement Award.

One of his lesser known achievements was that it was the first entertainment personality to have your own website. In 1995 he created Rodney.com, which is still in existence today.
